Arun Prakash- Jeevana Yoga

The word Yoga translates to Aprapta-prapti ‘earning unearned’ as said in a commentary of Bhagavadgita. The word Yoga is homonymous as well as polysemous; however not nebulous. Yoga also translates to relation and plan. Maharshi Patanjali says Yoga is controlling the spirit (Citta-vrtti-nirodha). Here spirit refers to Brahman, Prana, Atman, Manas and senses as Upanishats enjoin. Maharshi being a titanic grammarian explained Yoga is derived from root Yujir that means association; interprets relation, earning, planning and controlling.

Jivana speaks about life, living and their appliances. Jiva, the soul who resides in the body can control spirit with the help of Yoga. Pranadharana i.e., grounding the soul in the body with help of healthy process of respiration is called Jivana. Respiration is synecdochically used in the context that accounts to all the lively phenomena.
